1. INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ( Conestoga Wagon)
This Club has supported various projects most of which are still ongoing,
with the focus being very much on Literacy, Computer Literacy and Training
Skills.
It has donated £1,000 to buy books for a school that has just over 1,400 children between the ages of 5 - 17 in Uganda. No class is smaller than 90 with some as large as 120. The books were purchased in Uganda, in conjunction with the Head Teacher with input from the children, and the material was culture specific and relevant to the needs of the children.
In Pakistan it provided £1,300 to fund the purchase of 6 computers, tables & chairs, UPS, printer etc. for a computer training centre for women. It receives first hand reports on this project and already 3 of the women have secured teacher training positions. There are now 14 students in the Centre and they have to operate in 3 shifts to accommodate 3 classes per day.
It also donated £265 to purchase books for another school in Northern Pakistan.
This Club are also helping in the economic rehabilitation following the Pakistan Earthquake, and has funded two temporary vocational training centres providing training in sewing skills costing £450 each. It is also funding a permanent vocations centre and the Club has donated £900 to purchase 15 sewing machines and 5 embroidery machines all with tables & chairs. Following the Pakistan Earthquake, the Club had a can collection and raised £1,049 for the District Appeal.
In all these projects the Club is providing facilities and equipment for the local women and children, encouraging them to learn new skills which will hopefully lead to better employment prospects or to running their own small businesses.
This award goes to the Rotary Club of Dunfermline
9. ROTARY FOUNDATION (Maori Doll)
Foundation giving on District 1010 was the highest ever, Clubs contributed
£114,048.53 which converts to approx $US 210,000 a magnificent achievement
-
Thank you District 1010.
In awarding the Maori Doll consideration has been given to the Club which
has consistently raised its donation to Foundation over the past three years
and has remained extremely focused on its giving to The Rotary Foundation.
With totals in excess of £2000 per annum it is achieving something near the targets for Club giving per capita.
There are several Clubs who are starting to increase their totals, some quite remarkably; the worthy winner the Rotary Club of Dunfermline just got the edge over Ellon whose performance was also noteworthy.
